Jonas Mekas "The Godfather of Avant-Garde"

Jonas Mekas was an immigrant from Lithuania. He worked on a farm as a kid and was originally a philosophy major. He and his brother got into experimental cinema after watching German Expressionist films, then they obtained a bolex that had been surplussed from the war.
After that, Mekas started doing "home movie" style cinema, which was documenting his family life.
He was also called a "philanthropist of film" because of all the help he did with the experimental film community.
He could also be called "the original vlogger" because of his 365 day project.
